Renanthera Firecracker
Renanthera Firecracker
Brilliant patterns of red speckles and flares adorn these crimson and golden-orange flowers. Very compact-growing, terete (succulent) monopodial foliage (grows upward from a main stem) ; the plant stands about 12 inches tall when in bloom. Flowers, each approximately 2 inches tall and 1 inch across, bloom as a spray on an upright to arching stem. From the cross between the long lasting and cold-tolerant Himalayan species, Renanthera imschootiana, and the colorful and compact hybrid Renanthera Red Leopard.

Established blooming-size seedlings. 'Seedlings' are the offspring of pollination, as siblings these may be similar, yet each is unique and no two are identical in precise color or shape.

Renanthera Mona Lisa
Colorful, speckled seedlings from the colorful cross between the R. Red Leopard, which imparts larger flower size on miniature foliage, with R. monachica, a spectacular species from the Philippines with an exquisite spotted pattern. The blossoms from this colorful hybrid are a delightful blend of its outstanding parents, and have shown real 'hybrid vigor' and a great willingness to bloom. Please provide shelter during the Winter, if growing this outdoors the rest of the year.

Renanthera Poipu
Renanthera Poipu
We grow this beautiful and unusual plant outdoors with our Cymbidiums! The vibrant, red-orange flowers have a distinctively perky shape and they bloom as a spray along arched and branching stems. The monopodial foliage type (fan-like stem) is also attractive, with a succulent-like charm. This hybrid can be grown in colder conditions, because of its Himalayan parent, Renanthera imschootiana.

Established blooming-size seedlings. 'Seedlings' are the offspring of pollination, as siblings these have some similarities, yet each is unique and no two are identical in precise color or shape.

Rhyncholaelia digbyana
Rhyncholaelia digbyana
A famous species, with its lovely green petals and uniquely breathtaking white lip. A key feature of this species, distinctive to its exceptional beauty, is the highly unusual texture of the lip edge which is 'fimbriated' (possesses hair-like frills). It is said that if you measured along the lip, around every 'frill', the circumference would total between 20 and 30 feet!

Because it is pollinated by moths in nature the blossoms also produce a sweet fragrance at night. This flower is so admired by hybridizers that it is officially registered as a parent in 428 crosses! One reason for its popularity among is its' resilience : one of our customers didn't water his for 2 months and it was fine!
This exquisite orchid thrives and blooms best when grown in bright, indoor conditions, but can be grown with some success outdoors in Cymbidium conditions as long as it protected from winter rains. Plants offered here are seedlings 1-2 years from bloooming.

Rhyncholaeliocattleya (Maris Song x Bryce Canyon)
Rhyncholaeliocattleya (Maris Song x Bryce Canyon)
Bright colors and patterns to bloom for the Autumn! Two of our favorite outdoor-growing hybrids of the Cattleya alliance are the parents of these vibrant seedlings: the spectacularly splash-petal patterned Cattleya Mari Song, and the super colorful Rhyncholaeliocattleya Bryce Canyon.

The main photo above shows the parents and gives an idea of the gorgeous range of floral displays; the photo to the side, showing the compact foliage, is one of the seedlings in bloom. That compact foliage is a great feature of this beautiful hybrid as it really showcases the large blossoms. All the seedlings to bloom thus far have been bright hues of pink with delicate splash-petal patterns and lips with golden-yellow centers.

Established blooming-size seedlings. 'Seedlings' are the offspring of pollination; as siblings they may have similarities, yet each seedling is unique and no two are identical in exact color or shape. There is no way to tell ahead of time exactly which display each seedling will favor. Enjoy the surprise!

Rhyncholaeliocattleya Dianacita
Rhyncholaeliocattleya Dianacita
This stunning, classic corsage-style, alba-white Cattleya goes the extra mile with a delicate, zesty fragrance. The flowers are up to six inches across and are a bright-white, with a richly yellow center on the lip.

This plant is of particular interest for orchid horticulture history in Southern California: it came from the renowned late hobbyists Herb and Rita Crothers, of Vista CA. They crossed the legendary Rlc. Ranger Six with Cattleya Little Angel, bred by Armacost & Royston, and Jones & Scully, respectively, to produce this gorgeous hybrid!

Rhyncholaeliocattleya Opal Appaloosa
Rhyncholaeliocattleya Opal Appaloosa
This exciting hybrid showcases colorful blooms with bold, burgundy dots. The spotted pattern is from its lineage of Brazilian bifoliate Cattleyas, which are very resilient outdoor growers with bright colors and prominent speckles. The boldly speckled parents are the compact and spectacularly spotted Cattleya Motte Spot and Rhyncolaeliocattleya Long Life Spot, which adds fuller shape, amber hues, and a higher flower count.

This hybrid's burgundy dots are offset by a vibrant background color; this color ranges in the seedlings between pastel jade-green to rich amber-yellow (examples photographed above). The vivid colors require bright growing conditions: the coloration matures a few days after the flowers open. The large lip is predominantly vibrant fuchsia-pink. Some even bloom with fragrance!

Rhynchostele bictoniense
Rhynchostele bictoniense
This species is native to the cooler regions of Mexico and Central America. The inflorescence on these young plants stands about 28 inches tall, but the sprays of mature plants can grow to a meter high! Tolerant of cold temperature to 27F. Cool growing. Rodriguezia decora
Rodriguezia decora
This intriguing species, the range of which spans across both sub-tropical and temperate Southern Brazil, grows well both outdoors and in intermediate conditions. It remains vigorous even when our unheated shade-house drops in temperature to 28 degrees! Its delicate flowers are white and burgundy, and produce a light, tangy scent. Another remarkable quality of this species is its "reaching" growth habit: its dainty pseudobulbs connect with long, slender rhizomes that often arch out and down allowing the root clusters to cascade in the air! Because of this it makes a gorgeous specimen either cascading down from a hanging basket, or when trained up and across a fence! Ours have been grown in hanging pots, but should easily transplant.
