Trichocentrum cavendishianum One of the most striking members of the
Oncidium Alliance with its magnificent rigid upright 'mule-eared' leaves and large flower of saturated yellow and bronze hues. The seedlings offered here are from the selfing** pollination of our ‘Santa Barbara’ cultivar. We consider this species to be tolerant of temperatures to freezing, but they do prefer to stay more dry between late Autumn through early Spring: so keep them out of winter rains. We expect they would also do well in an intermediate-temperature greenhouse as they are native to Mexico and Guatemala, albeit from the higher elevations (about 5000 ft and higher). Previously known as
Oncidium cavendishianum.
These established plants are self-propagation** seedlings from our own mother-plant. The blooms resemble their origin flower with minimal variation.
** "Selfing" propagation is done by pollinating a flower with its' own pollen. The resulting seedlings are technically unique, and may vary slightly in precise color, size, or markings, yet generally posses a strong resemblance to the self-pollinated flower.
Temperature Tolerant. February - March blooming. Species from Mexico and Guatemala.
