Cymbidium President Wilson 'Gold Medal'
President Wilson = Cymbidium Alexanderi X Cymbidium lowianum |
|
This classic (registered in 1917) cross of Alexanderi and lowianum, originally by Sanders of Saint Albans, Hertfordshire, England, has been a standout cymbidium for more than a century. This cultivar 'Gold Medal' was the champion cymbidium at the 1949 Santa Barbara International Orchid Show, when exhibited by J.A. Carbone Jr. It received the first Gold Medal ever awarded by the Cymbidium Society of America. Seventy-five years later, its light yellow color, contrasting red lip, tall arching spikes, and high flower count still catch the eye of customers, making it one of the best of the spring blooming, standard Cymbidiums. Four sprouted backbulbs are available for 60 dollars each.
Cool growing. March - April blooming. |
