Native to the mid-elevations of Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil, this is the classic Zygopetalum species with the sweet complex fragrance that so many of the modern hybrids lack. The unusual combination of the large stripy purple and white lip next to the grass-green petals with dark brown blotches is striking. A good companion for Cymbidiums in coastal California, although it would be one of the first orchids to take into the garage during a freeze or move to cooler deeper shade during a hot spell.
Established blooming-size seedlings. 'Seedlings' are the offspring of pollination; as siblings these may be very similar, yet each seedling is unique and no two are identical in exact color or shape.
