SBOE Summer Blooming Varieties
In spike and bloom at various times throughout the summer. Order early for the best selection; available throughout the season or until they run out!
Brazilian Laelias: The most beautiful and showy of summer-blooming Cattleya-type species and hybrids. Temperature tolerant; these grow outdoors along with cymbidiums throughout the year. Varieties include: Laelia purpurata, the Queen of Brazilian Summer - lavender, alba, & semi-alba - $35 & up, L. Pacavia - $35 & up, L. tenebrosa - $35 & up, Lc. Elegans - $35 & up, L. Cinnabrosa - $25 & up, and more! Please inquire about larger plants and select varieties.
Stanhopeas: Amazing, dragon-like flowers that bloom downward through the bottom of a basket! Natives of Central and South America, most of the species we grow are temperature
tolerant and can be grown outdoors along with Cymbidiums. While the flowers may only last a few days, their dramatic beauty makes them a favorite among orchid enthusiasts, and large
specimens produce masses of inflorescences blooming in succession for a much longer period of time. Stanhopea oculata, S. tigrina, S. wardii and others starting at $25. Some select varieties $35 & up. Specimen-size baskets $50 & up. See our extended Stanhopea list with pictures!
Sobralias: Large flowers occuring in lavender, white, yellow and art shades, complemented by graceful, bamboo-like foliage distinguish this Central South American genus. While the flowers are not long-lasting, they are produced over a long period of time, during summer when flowers are at a premium in the collection and their extravagant beauty never fails to attract attention. Sobralia macrantha - $25 & up, S. mirabilis (pictured) $35 & up, S. veitchiana - $50 & up, S. xantholeuca - $50 & up and S. Yellow Kiss - $35 & up. Note, some Sobralias are very tall, so watch out for shipping costs.
Summer & Fall-Blooming Cymbidiums:
Starting to Spike! Extend the flowering season throughout the year with miniature, heat tolerant varieties such as Cym. Autumn Green - $35, Cym. Caitlain - $25, Cym Diane Falk - $25, Cym Golden Elf - $25, Cym Meglee - $35, Cym Valentine’s Love - $35 (pictured) and more. Listed are base prices for plants with one spike; add $10 per additional spike for multispike plants.
Encylias: These stately species and hybrids are unique among their related Cattleya-types for their wispy sprays and profusion of flowers. When not in bloom, the bulbs are particularly attractive. Most are temperature tolerant and all are suited for pot, basket or mounted culture. Encyclia aenicta - $35, E. ambigua - $25, E. belizense - $17.50, E. Coral Miss - $25, E. guatemalensis - $25, E. hanburii - $17.50, E. mariae - $25, E. prismatocarpa - $35, E. randii - $35, E. Summer Perfume (pictured) - $25, E. tampensis - $17.50. Listed are base prices for plants with one spike; inquire about larger multispike plants.
