This Mexican species produces plumes of fragrant, amber-brown blossoms, each a half-inch across. The flowers feature an unusual texture covering the reverse of the sepals in the form of intriguing, rigid, hair-like protrusions. Its exotic fragrance smells like smoky vanilla. (syn.
