Cymbidium Meglee 'Ms Taipei'
Cymbidium Meglee 'Ms Taipei'
Another of our fragrant, summer blooming, varieties starting to show it's flower spikes. We grow it next to our standard cymbidiums, but it should do equally well in Southern States or in an intermediate greenhouse. This cultivar has been in the trade for years under the above name without proper registration. This led to much confusion since it meant few people knew the actual parentage. In 2001, however, it was properly registered as Miss Taipei Unveiled 1. This gives the parents as sinense and Super Baby (Babylon x ensfolium). Perhaps this accounts for its complex fragrance. Temperature Tolerant. August - September blooming.

Back in 1910 when the plant exporter, the mysterious Mr. Ghose, telegraphed his collecter up in Myanmar to bring back some more of the "sweet smelling" cymbidium, the collecter brought back the only sweet smelling cymbidium he knew; the one we know today as suavissimum. The species Mr. Ghose was referring to was tracyanum, but we are glad this one was brought instead. This species does not usually bloom every season, but does so with profusion when it does. Lightly scented. Cool growing. August - September blooming. Species from Burma.
